Re: Bad experience 3rd time Ocing...
I, however, DO look like a "Street thug". Tattooed, pierced, shaved head, the oh-so-threatening hoodie, etc. I am also a law-abiding homeowner, loyal husband, and doting father who puts the well-being and safety of his family first...my one responsibility is to make sure they have everything they need to be happy. I'm the guy who helps old ladies across the street, will fix the neighborhood kids bicycles when they have a flat or a thrown chain, clear snow off the neighbors driveways, etc. Sometimes I OC, sometimes I CC, and only once have I had a "bad" experience with an uninformed member of society--frankly, it's not my responsibility to make sure every stranger I pass on the street with is comfortable with me--if my appearance makes you uncomfortable then perhaps you need to look at yourself for the reason. (not directed at anyone here, just a general statement) A persons appearance doesn't affect who they are inside--I know many complete hypocritical assholes who wear a suit every day, and I know great people who don't own a tie. Only one person may judge me, and none of us will meet him until we die.

Yes, the manager is wrong about legally carrying in the bar. And, you can be kicked out for any reason or no reason. My opinion about this is not exactly popular, but I have been in plenty of bars in my day, and bars are generally full of stupid people in the process of getting stupider. I am not one to shirk from having a drink or two while out and carrying, but I stay away from bars just to avoid stupid people. I do not say that you are stupid, or that anyone else here is (cough cough). I just say that there are plenty of other people who are foolish, and the alcohol makes them even worse. There are lots better ways to spend my time and money.
Beyond that, if you are going to OC, and I OC just about everywhere, you are going to be kicked out of places from time to time. We are not the only people with rights, and others are allowed to exercise theirs, even if that practice is counterproductive to their business.

A very good statement. I will add though, that a person's appearance does send a signal to others. People profile other people all the time based on the appearance that is projected. I have a Masters Degree and can read and write in five languages. I normally dress in boots, jeans, and a ball cap that has a proletarian connotation to it. So I expect people to treat me like I am not educated. Disabusing them of that notion is half the fun.

Pardon me as I recover from my moment of stunned awe from reading how you went to a bar that employed multiple bouncers, and were surprised that you were not allowed to carry a gun openly.
...
All done. I frequent a few Berks area bars regularly, as I have a weak spot for the Celtic song and dance nights. It's about the only time in my schedule that I will make a serious effort to conceal, even at bars were I am well known. And by well known I mean first name basis with all employees, have slept over at some of their houses, etc etc.
There are places where guns and alcohol can mix, usually only when everyone in attendance is on a first name basis with everyone else's parents. Other than that, it's not "anti" to conceal, simply being realistic about the situation you're in.

People choose how they look. Lets cut through the BS, we dress the way you do because that is the way we want people to see us. If you choose to look like a thug then dont bitch when you are treated like a thug. You should be happy to be perceived the way you wanted to be perceived. Congradulations, mission accomplished.
