    Default Another flash mob

    http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/201...liberty-place/

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police say five teenagers are in custody after a flash mob gathered at Liberty Place in Center City Wednesday evening.

It all started about 5:30 in the area of 15th and Chestnut Streets. Central Detectives received a radio call of a large flash mob in the street. Arriving officers found 30-to-40 teens in the street weaving in and out of traffic, and pushing pedestrians on the sidewalk.

    More flash = less mob.

Dumb question - why all the hate for flashmobs? I just know them as large groups of people who tweet where they're going to be, dance to Glee songs, and disband.

Has the City of Brotherly Gunfire managed to corrupt even that?

Did you read the article? Does it sound like they were singing songs? No.

They should be strung up by the little piggy that goes whee whee whee all the way home....

That's how the concept started, and they still happen from time to time. But sometimes mobs gather for the purposes of rioting. The media decided to use the same term for both.

I actually drove through a flash mob close to Del Ave. as it was being dispersed about two weeks ago. I was struck by how young everyone was. There looked to be a few older ones but I'd say the median age was 15 (some much younger) and 1/4 were female.

Not to suggest the 50+ 15 year olds won't ruin your day but it sort changed my perspective on some of the "what to do" scenarios I've read or had in my head.

"Flash mob" is being used incorrectly to describe these events. They should properly be termed "Electronically enhanced wilding".
