.22LR AR15 uppers
I'm thinking a few months down the road here, so forgive me if I get ahead of myself... I may open a big can of worms here, I'm not sure.
I've ordered a lower receiver, the 16" RRA kit would have been delivered today if someone would have been home to sign for it... I don't even have it in my possession and I've caught a bad bug. I'm looking more into the flexibility of the AR platform, and decided an upper dedicated to 22LR would make a good addition. I don't want to try to make a compromise with a drop in kit in a 1:9 or even a 1:7 barrel, I'm thinking 1:15 or 16 would be better suited to the lower velocity and lighter bullet weight of the lowly little .22LR. I'd like this upper to be in the 20" range free floated heavy barrel.
With a proper twist rate, and free floated barrel, it should be capable of decent accuracy (not that I am), no?
I've seen a few complete 20" varmint uppers for around $550-600 give or take, Example
I realize that for that much money I could just go buy a dedicated 22 rifle, but that would make another platform to learn. I think a 22 ar would make a good practice platform.
Now, here are my questions..
Any companies currently making a good 22LR barrel for an AR?
Any suggestions for a complete upper?
Suggestions on what to get to build an upper instead of buying complete?
Magazines, what to look for/what to avoid?
Anything else I should consider in the next couple months before commencing to build/buy an upper?

Re: .22LR AR15 uppers
20" is a waste (IMHO) max velocity is around 10-12"
Get a 16" (or 10" if you SBR it)
as to barrels
