It depends on the clerk who is working the counter. I've shipped guns from there before with no problem. Then I tried to ship a rifle from that location about 2 months ago and it was a big hassle. The clerk demanded that it go overnight. She pulled out their tariff book and showed me where it says that in "their discretion" they can require any firearm to be shipped overnight, and in her discretion, that's how it had to go. No way I was gonna spend over $100 to ship a $250 rifle overnight. I packed up and went to the Airport location on Hog Island Rd and they gave me no problems whatsoever.

Since handguns have to go overnight anyway, you might be okay at the Oregon Ave hub. If they give you grief, go to the Airport location and you'll probably be treated better.

I shipped a .357 via FedEx a while back but I went to the Bristol shipping center...no issues.

Looks like my best bet would be to go to the airport location. And I printed out the regs for both ups and fed ex. Will most likely try next week to ship out and will post update on how well it goes.

FYI I'm pretty sure that the airport location has limited hours. I seem to recall that they open around 5 PM and probably close around 9 on weekdays. I'd hate to see you go there on your lunch break only to find the gate locked.

I worked for ups... and I have seen my fair share of boxes break open/.. had a shotgun roll down my chute... so if you were to mail it put it in a heavy duty plastic or metal box with a lock... and wrap that bitch like it is going to get hit a tornado....
