Thumbs down Local mayors join call for gun control

How many contradictions can you spot??

    http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-...l_tab01_layout

"Two Lehigh Valley mayors joined with police officers, advocates and politicians from across the state this morning to call on state lawmakers to pass new gun-control legislation that they say is key to stopping the violence on the streets of their communities"

Can't control your own cities - so lets spread the fault state-wide!

"Rendell, meanwhile, called on lawmakers to "put their rear-ends on the line," and vote in favor of the bills, as a show of support for police officers who "put their rear-ends on the line every day."

Dam right any politician that impedes our rights will have their a** on the line....and then some!

"Bethlehem Officer Steven Marks, the first city police officer shot in the line of duty in 40 years, also attended today's rally. He said passing the minimum sentence bill would make people think twice about pulling a gun on an officer.

"People know we're armed," he said. "If they're coming after us, they'll come after anyone.""

The most ironic quote in the entire article - precisely the reason why we need to preserve our right to self-defense!

Time to start sending alot of certified letters to the chief in Bethlehem and ask why he hired an officer that is trying to break the Law by ignoring OUR constitution

Headline I'd Like to see: "Local Citizens call on the DA for prosecution of politicians and police chiefs for violation of oath of office and treason"

Look at Pittsburgh, they had similar issues to Philly, but as soon as they got a chief who pushed enforcing the laws on the books, the problem dropped like a hot potato. If we can put the offensive politicians on the Defense, we wouldn't have to defend our rights, they'd have to defend themselves every time they fronted a bill aimed at restricting those rights. Ohh how I long for the days you could run a corrupt official out of town tared, feathered and on a rail.

    Agreed, and for several reasons.

If these criminals aren't deterred by the fact that the police officers are likely to shoot and kill them, and if they aren't deterred by the fact that they already face hefty sentences under existing law, what in the world makes these politicians think that the criminals are going to really take this minimum sentencing law into consideration when deciding whether or not to start taking shots at a police officer?

Don't get me wrong, sometimes harsher sentences can serve as an effective deterrent. Most of the time, though, I think these policies operate under the misguided perception that these criminals are actually thinking the consequences through rationally before deciding to partake in their criminal acts. If they were thinking rationally, they wouldn't be doing these things in the first place.

Of course, politicians have to appear to be 'doing something', even if the something they are doing is entirely misguided and ineffective.
