Default What kind of recorder do you carry?

Hope this is in the right thread.

What type of recorder do you carry in case you are confronted by the police about OC? I have a little cheap thing and I don't think it would pick up the conversation if it is in my shirt pocket.

Sansa C250 mp3 player. Got it as a gift. Excellent recording quality, even in the change pocket of my jeans. Very inconspicuous too.

Not to stray off topic, but do you folks using super fancy-pants phones (Droid, Blackberry, iPhone) leave the recorder running while you're out? Or do you just turn them on when you need them? I'm considering stepping up to the 21st century and getting a better phone, but I've been curious about these features. I like the idea of having it recording whenever I go out so I don't have to mess with it while being assaulted/arrested/tazed etc.

I had purchased my recorder from Wallyworld for 50.00. It'll record over 500 hours worth of audio according to the specs. Although I don't OC yet, i did bring the recorder with me the other day to the range when it was supposed to be me and 4 other guys in a minivan with around 10 guns and tons of ammo. Everything was 100% legal, but it def wouldn't look good to an officer.

Here's a link to my recorder.

There's another thread about this somewhere around here...

I carry around an RCA VR5220-A. It's less than $40, takes great quality audio, and I can plug it right into my PC like a thumb drive to copy files off of it.

I'll add a short sample of the audio here shortly...from my latest encounter with the police. You'll hear how clear it is, sitting in my vest pocket.

Also, to answer the other questions - personally, I do not have it on all the time. When I am OCing, I only turn it on when I either expect an encounter of some kind (which only happens rarely, like if there happens to be a police officer right in front of the store I am going into), if I sense trouble, or if I become uncomfortable with the way a police officer is treating me during a mere encounter.

In Philadelphia, however, due to it's insane way of treating gun carriers, if I am OC and in public, I do always have it on.

ETA: Here is the little tiny clip from my latest encounter with the police. You can hear pretty clearly everything they say.
