PFA alleges drawn gun, abuse between county deputy sheriff's

WILKES-BARRE – A Luzerne County deputy sheriff filed a protection from abuse order Friday against a fellow deputy sheriff, after she alleged their relationship ended and a gun was pulled in a Feb. 9 incident.

Mary Jean Farrell, 50, filed the PFA against Jennifer M. Roberts, 33, after the incident where Farrell said Roberts assaulted her after asking her to move out of her home, and allegedly pointed a gun in her face.

Under the terms of the temporary action, Roberts, who currently works in the sheriff’s department’s Hazleton office, was ordered to hand over her firearms to the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Department.

Farrell must also hand over any weapons and avoid contact with Roberts after a reciprocal PFA was filed against Farrell.

In that PFA filed by Roberts a few hours later, she alleges Farrell threatened Roberts' life after being told their relationship was over, and that "No one would miss me, that's if they ever found my body," Roberts wrote.

Roberts also said Farrell assaulted her inside their home on Feb. 9 again threatened to "shoot her dead."

If these two can not be near guns will they lose their jobs? Will they be able to collect unemployment?

Isn't this nice. Me thinks its time for a nice bit of a duel. I recall reading that there was once a duel fought between 2 women using muzzle loading cannons in the 18th century.

One is out on workman's comp, the other is suspened without pay.

If, after the PFA hearing, the firearms restriction is not lifted, then the one on suspension could stand to loose her job. No idea how it woud affect the other one on comp. I don't think the sheriff's department has any non-armed positions, but I could be wrong.

As for unemployment, I think they would be able to collect.

Wait a minute! What happen to arrest, seizure of the guns and if applicable revocking of their LTCF? If it was me threatnening my (ahm ahm) companion I would be seating in jail right now and my guns would be melting down somewhere. I know they had to give up the guns, temporarely, but......!

The judge who hears the case might allow them to carry for work. I've read that many cops have PFAs against them, but since carrying is part of their job, they can, but only while on duty. They are supposed to turn over their guns at the end of their shift.

Arrest? As far as I know nothing was reported to the police, so why would there be an arrest? I don't know of any criminal charges being filed, so your "I would be sitting in jail" comment doesn't fly. There does not have to be an arrest in order to get a PFA.

They had to turn over weapons, but nothing gets "melted down".

As for LTCF, being that they were sheriff's deputies, they were not required to have one, although they very well could have one if they want.
