Being 18, you are fully able to purchase a firearm in PA from a non-FFL. The purchase needs to go through the Sheriff to conduct the transfer.

Long guns can be bought and sold in a private sale without any need for paperwork or official transfer.

It is also legal for your Parent/Grandparent to gift you a gun without any need for paperwork or official transfer.

Since you are in Philly, I wish you GL

Also, get your LTCF ASAP so you are covered with carry/transport of your firearm while not working.

There are limitations on the ACT 235. It is not a replacement for a LTCF

Not going to happen in Philthy until OP is 21, and then maybe not even then w/o a fight.

    OP,

Have your parents or grandparents give/sell you a handgun. You can do a private transfer with other persons, BUT you'll need a sheriff to do the transfer work. Bad news is, nearly all sheriff will NOT do it.

To cover your butt, get a Maine weapons permit. They issue to those under 18yo. Then with that Maine permit, use it to get a New Hampshire license. NH also issues to people under 21yo, but you need a permit/license from any other state first(hense getting the Maine first). The Maine permit will only cover you in vehicles, but the NH will cover you outside the vehicle too.
