Default need info on old redfield scope

I picked up an old 4x12 redfield scope. There is an adjustable ring on the front of the scope with numbers from 50 to infinity. What are these adjustments for? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an Adjustable Objective, also known as an "AO". It's what you can use to change the focus of the scope for different distances, and get a sharp crisp picture. It's really related to parallax adjustment, but most manufacturers put the parallax adjustment and focus together, so they should be pretty close. If you're not familiar with parallax, I'll be happy to explain that also, although there are other threads that discuss it on the forum.

Ok thanks Tomcat. I dont think I'd ever need to take a shot beyond 200 yds so I'm just gonna let well enough alone.
