Default Please could you help me identify a pistol

    Hello

I have been handed down a pistol and I am interested to find out about it. I am a complete novice when it comes to firearms so any information that you are able to give me is most appreciated.

I can not find any identifying marks, names or numbers on the pistol and I have no idea what kind of pistol it is. Please let me know if you need more pictures

    Thanks very much

It appears to be a very old percussion cap pistol. Pics of both side would be good. There should be a small metal tab looking thing under the barrel. If you push that out the barrel should come off. Then you can see if the makers name or proof marks are on the barrel. However if you have no real clue of what you are doing take it to a gun smith and have him do it. Also if you want to sell it do some research. some guns can be worth big $ dont get suckered!

    Hi Daycrawler

Thanks very much for the advice. I have attached some more detailed pictures including two of the underside of the gun, there isn't a small tab but there is a screw which could be loosened.

I also took a closer look at the barrel and I can just make out some letters, one of them is definitely an E and the other could be a D or O. The letters are inside a circle. I have tried to take a close up picture but it's quite hard to make out.

And at the very least I now know that could be a Percussion Cap pistol which puts me one step ahead from where I was.

    Thanks again

Your best bet with that antique would be to seek out an expert in antique arms and armor, but it may cost you. I have not done a google search for antique arms forums, yet I am sure one exists.

Gem, Welcome aboard, I use to live literally around the corner from you in Delta,
Anyway I'm not so sure you have a Percussion there, It's hard to tell from your pics, But it seems to lack an exposed lock, which most percussions had, try Google imaging single shot pistols, The Lock itself should make identifying it a little easier, It's an interesting piece and hopefully somebody with more knowledge will come along.

It Looks to me like you have a flint lock without the lock. That thing sticking up looks like the frizzen. Anyway send pictures to Mark at oldguns.net he is always willing to help. A close up shot of the lock area would help too.

Basically what I gather is that it is Belgian made and designed for indoor target practice.
