i have a Remington 870 with and 18.5" barrel and I'm looking for a quality tube extension that isn't going to do too much damage to my wallet ... Any suggestions?

Be careful about buying inexpensive parts. I have a Wilson Combat (Scattergun Technoligies) extension on my 870P.

I'm aware that cheaper in most cases is of a lower quality however almost all if the time with the most expensive parts your just paying for a brand name for example Wilson Combat. What I'm looking for is something more middle of the road that's a good quality extension without a premium price that I would pay from someone like Remington or Wilson Combat.

I have a new england firearms pardner pump, i was told its a clone of the 870, i dont know about you but i have an 18.5inch and my mag tube can only handle a single extender. Just make sure what you are going to buy will not extend past, especially if where you buy it from does not accept returns.

A Choate is a good quality extension. I have a choate 2 round extension on my 870 with 18" barrel. It fits well, looks good, and functions great.

I used a Scattergun/Wilson Combat extension for a while and never had any issues with it other than the sling mount. Their website does offer the extension without a sling mount but I didn't know that at the time ... Anyway, it's a really good quality extension for around $45. I had a Tacstar +5 that I cut down to 6 3/4" so it was flush with my muzzle and I have a 7+1 capacity with the 18" barrel. I used a pipe cutter that crimps the edges, put the factory follower from my Mossberg 930 in the end and refinished it to match the rest of the gun. I personally wouldn't get a Tacstar +2 because it's flat on the end and almost an inch shorter than the muzzle of an 18 1/2" barrel. I had one for a few days and returned it. No function issues, it just wasn't aesthetically pleasing to me.

I don't care for the Remington extensions. Unless the nut and extension tube are threaded together perfectly, you can have all kinds of issues with feeding and reloading. My follower would get caught at the joint all the time when I was reloading and it really pissed me off. Aside from that, it's designed to be used with the magazine clamp/sling mount that comes on it and it I prefer not to have a clamp on my shotgun unless it's there to mount a light.

I'm looking at a Choate for my H&R Pardner Protector, but I'm unclear as to how many rounds it adds. With the barrel lug so far forward, it's very short, maybe just one round additional. Anybody know for sure?
