Re: duracoat
Duracote works good. Ceracote is better. Be sure you want to do either one on a pistol like the one you are describing. Yes, it can be removed, once done, but it is messy and can be a hassel. The Duracote will require you to be careful laying the pistol around because it chips, and if it not sprayed on a perfectly prepared surface, it will chip and even flake, easily. Ceracote is more reliable, but will do the same if not done properly. Preperation is the main thing when you decide to cote (coat) a pistol. Absolutely clean and scrubbed with the right grade scrub pad. If you send it out to have it done, be sure to use someone who specializes in it and offers a warranty.

Re: duracoat
I introduced my father to Duracote about 6 months ago and he went crazy with it. (I think the dog has been 'coted' in OD - lol) Absolutely loves it and has done a few pistols. They turned out great.
I'm in absolute agreement with the above poster and their assessment of its fragility. If you're looking for something absolutely rugged, Cerakote is much better, but for general use and light wear, Durakote is great for the price.

Re: duracoat
I tried Duracoat and Durabake enamel, they both sucked. I used all of their suggested surface prep and curing techniques...it was great on plastic, worse than spray paint on metal.

Re: duracoat
I have duracoated over 20 firearms in a variety of patterns ,colors and 2 tones . The key is preparation it has to be free of all oils, I generally clean the pistol then strip it down totally and clean all the parts again. The I glass bead every thing that is going to get coated. Then I degrease again. Now the manufacturer
reccomends a more aggressive material than glass beads-black aluminum oxide is preferred for blasting of the parts. Duracoat adheres well to a properly prepped surface. It also likes freshly parkerized surfaces because there porous.I have a P-83 Wanad Polish 9mm mak that is duracoated in gray and silver that I have carryed every day for the last six months.I also shoot it every 2 weeks about 150 to 200
rounds and it has held up very well showing normal wear that you would get from holstering and on the slide to frame surfaces that contact during cycling. The bottom line is that any parts that move will eventually show some sort of wear just like any other finish.
