Possible barrel defect in my Single Six?
I picked up this Single Six (made in 2003) about a month back and noticed something the other day while cleaning it. It appears the crowning on the barrel was done off-center. Is this anything to worry about? The gun seems to shoot ok....

Re: Possible barrel defect in my Single Six?
It looks like it was tilted when milled rather than being off center. It is clear that it is crowned all the way around the inside circumference of the barrel, so I would not worry about it too much. Impressive that you noticed that.

Re: Possible barrel defect in my Single Six?
That will most likely not affect accuracy, but it does look like ass.
That's about a $10.00 fix to straighten it out.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter

Re: Possible barrel defect in my Single Six?
I'm gonna say this is speculation and it may or may not effect accuracy. In a pistol, with a short barrel, and usually shot at shorter ranges, it very well may not effect accuracy. The crown of any firearm though can have pretty damatic effects on accuracy. Small burrs, being "off center", varying angles, etc., can all effect accuracy. When you start talking about rifles and longer ranges, it can definitely effect accuracy. The crown does have effects on how the the gas is vented around the bullet, just before, during, and after it exits the barrel. Uneven gases vented around the bullets can cause them to wobble, yaw, become unstable, and prevent the bullet from being able to stabilize before it arrives at the target. So while it may not effect accuracy, it very well could. If the OP has problems with accuracy from the pistol, I would say it's a possibility.
