does scope position matter?
i bought my first scope and it came before my rifle did. i just placed it on one of my guns in hand just for fun and it was fun just to play around with the scopes magnifications and focus. its very interesting stuff, i had a hard time before i figured things out. its not so easy as in just look and shoot.
anyway i have it on a draco ak and its on the front hand guard. im wondering if its a problem or not. ie breakage since its so close to the muzzle.
i know its not really the type of gun but just the general idea. i just might shoot it like this if its safe. FOR FUN

Re: does scope position matter?
Scopes have a thing called "eye relief". The lenses are focused to bring the field of view into perspective at a certain distance from the rear of the scope. Most rifle scopes have an eye relief between 2.5" and 4". Handgun and "scout" mounted scopes have a longer eye relief.
With that scope above, unless you hold your eye above the receiver about where the trigger is you aren't going to see squat.. ...which with at gun, it's a very stupid thing to do.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

What's the eye relief for that scope? It looks like it would need to be about 12 inches for you to be able to see anything with the gun shouldered. Eye relief dictates placement of the scope. With the gun shouldered and a proper cheek weld you move the scope back and forth until you have a full field of view.

Try a Centerpoint red dot from WM on the AK. Unlimited eye relief and a good optic out to 100yds., or more. Only $55.

Re: does scope position matter?
I'd try a bigger tube red dot in the 40 - 45 mm range, or maybe a reflex type sight.
or you can spend the cash for a pistol scope with a extended eye reliefHonesta Mors Turpi Vita Potior ~ 3%

Re: does scope position matter?
The picture shows the objective lens very close to the muzzle. This is another problem. Muzzle blast are going to coat the lens with dirt. You will have to clean it every couple of shots if it doesn't break.
