    Default USPSA / IPSC Orientation

    USPSA / IPSC Orientation

    Saturday March 26, 2011 - 9:00 AM

Do you have an interest in "Action Shooting"? Maybe you've heard of IPSC or USPSA shooting and want to know more? Well, have we got a deal for you!

East Huntingdon Practical Shooters will be holding a new competitor orientation on Saturday March 26, 2011. The orientation is free and open to anyone interested in IPSC style action shooting. Items covered include:
    USPSA Rules
    Equipment
    Gun Handling Safety Issues

After some time in the classroom, we will head outside to the range to shoot 2 or 3 courses of fire - maybe 50 to 80 rounds.

This is a great time to get started. There will be experienced Range Officers there to help you and the other new shooters get started. Even if you don't want to shoot just yet, come on out and attend the class to see what our sport is all about. The class is on, no matter what the weather is.

Here is a list of things you should bring if you plan on shooting:

 Hearing and eye protection (required). We do have earplugs you can have.
 Handgun – any centerfire - 9mm or larger. No .22’s, single shots, or single action revolvers.
 Ammo - 70 to 80 rounds will get you through the orientation, but bring at least 150 to a regular match. (if you don't have this much, bring what you have)
 Magazines - (or moonclips/speedloaders) as needed to shoot a 16 to 32 round stage.
 Holster - must cover trigger guard.
 Mag pouches- if you don't have mag pouches, a carpenters pouch, a fanny pack or even your pockets will work just fine.

If you have any questions, please e-mail Ron Rodgers at rodgers.ron@comcast.net
(724-309-7568). Or Rhianna Trout at md@ehpsa.com

Hope to see you on the range!!!!

I copied this over to FT&T.

East Huntingdon is close to PMSC IIRC. Maybe I'll come out. Ive shot a couple matches but it still would be a good learning oppertunity.

You gonna be there hzox ?

FYI, PMSC is no longer having matches. They ran out of help for the matches.

    Shawn,

Here is a link to the Western PA Section for USPSA, which includes links to all the clubs that have matches plus a calender (which looks like it is new and needs updated) if you'd want to shoot elsewhere.

I attended the orientation at EH last year, and it is quite informative, and well worth the time to go.

    Update:

Saturday will be the orientation starting at 9:00 AM, class time followed by range time. We will have experienced USPSA shooters from both EH and other local clubs to demo and work with any new shooters on sample courses of fire.

There will be a normal monthly match the next day (Sunday), open registration starting at 9:00 AM and closing at 1:00 PM. Any new shooters we would ask that you get there as early as you can. We will attempt to send out new shooters with experienced shooters to make their first match more enjoyable.

Here's a link to all the clubs that shoot IDPA in NE PA. Not the same as IPSC or USPSA but still a lot of fun. Biggest differences are a cover garment is required, it's limited to 18 rds per stage and you also have to use cover when available. In my opinion it's probably easier for beginners and requires a little less gear.

Any shoot you go to they will give you a safety briefing and tell you all the rules. They are always really helpful to new shooters. I see you live in Monroe county. BRCV will be the closest club.
