First time semi-auto buyer ?
This is my first post as a new member, I would like some opinions on which .40 cal to buy for my first ccw, I already have a .357 & .44 mag Ruger super blackhawks so the big bang should not be a problem, I should also mention that I dont want a full size gun but more of a compact - subcompact single stack with a price tag of around $600 +/-. thanks for the input...

Re: First time semi-auto buyer ?
I'm partial to Glocks...I've been carrying a Glock 23 for a little over a year now and I love it. As far as CCW IMO they are some of the easiest to take care of. They stand up quite well to sweat, the elements, etc. Of course the Smith and Wesson M&P .40 as well as the Springfield XD are pretty popular as well. I'd go to a local shop and take a look at those...see what you think of them and go from there. Any specific reason for the single stack requirement?

Re: First time semi-auto buyer ?
A 40 caliber gun you want to look for would be a S&W 4013. It sports a 3 1/2" barrel, stainless steel slide, alloy frame and one mag will hold 8 rounds... Depending on condition you can pick one up between 3 and 400 bucks...

Re: First time semi-auto buyer ?
I've been carrying a Sig 239 lately. I think it's a subcompact but I'm not sure what it's really classified as, in .40 it's 7 + 1. Pricier that a Kahr but Sigs are all that's on the approved list for work.
I'd suggest trying before you buy if at all possible.

Re: First time semi-auto buyer ?
Springfield armory XD sub compact period (for the price). by far the best compact pistol IMO. I've been carrying mine for 9 months now every day. slightly larger than similar glocks but its actually a good thing. plus its safer than glocks with 2 safety's. and shoots excellent. easy to field strip, crisp trigger pull and I've never had a misfire.
even beter if you can shoot for the new xdm compact.WHEN DEMOCRACY TURNS TO TYRANNY, THE ARMED CITIZEN STILL GETS TO VOTE
