I would recommend the NRA Personal Protection Outside of the Home course its a very good course if you don't want to travel to far and spend too much on ammo, travel, etc...

There are quite a few great courses on the use of firearms. Not many go into the legal and/or moral aspects of the discussion.

In the FIRE Inst entry level courses there is a segment on the legal portion and dicussion on use of force that I think is invaluable.
