Check this out: www.chuckhawks.com/compared_17HMR_22WMR.htm
I also missed the bit that you wanted a rimfire rifle.Last edited by harold63; February 7th, 2011 at 10:06 PM.

Re: Which one would you get?
What are your opinions on the CZ 455? If I get that instead I can change the barrel to whatever caliber I like. The only problem would be when I mount a scope on it.

Re: Which one would you get?
WHOA! game changer! Watch out Ruger 77/**, you just signed your own death warrant by switching to a threaded barrel system. Looks like CZ is paying attention to the field. Now if they would JUST CHANGE that obnoxious magazine hanging out of the bottom....
Definately go w/ the 455 if you go CZ. The POI between my 22mag and 22lr barrels I swap back and forth on my Ruger only changes by about 2" @ 91yrds. I keep a scope turret setting card w/ each barrel. It is consistent enough that when i switch barrels, I can dial in the scop and be w/in ~.5" of POA on the first shot.

Re: Which one would you get?
I have a Marlin 17v, not the CZ, however the 17 WRM is a remarkable cartridge, and very capable with woodchucks. IN my experience it is a certain killer out to 150 yds if one gets into the thoracic cavity. I managed to shoot one at about 75yds in the guts and he managed to crawl away (from the smell emanating from my garden shed he did die). However, everyone I've hit in the heart-lungs has died where shot. Generally there is just the entrance hole, and no exit. I like this as I often shoot around my buildings and don't want any collateral damage.
I have no experience with a CZ in .17 but have fired a friends in .22lr and was very impressed. Don't know if the CZ is more accurate than my Marlin, but it sure is prettier.

Re: Which one would you get?
How far do you anticipate shooting? The range I go to is 100 yards and have found my Marlin 22mag to be plenty accurate.

Re: Which one would you get?
My range goes all the way out to 300 yards but I usually only shoot at 100 yards.

Re: Which one would you get?
I picked up a .17 hmr 2 years ago. Its the Marlin 917v or something. I have shot .22 all my life and the .17 is way better. Its much more accurate. I use it to hunt squirrels, but mostly groundhogs in the summer. I have no problem making head shots out to 100 yards and have not had any hogs crall away yet.
If you want to just shoot target and plink cans out to 100 yards then go with the .22. If you want a rimfire capable of killing a groundhog out past 200 yards then try the hmr.
Sorry I didn't give more information before about why I said .17. I don't like when people do that.

Re: Which one would you get?
.17 for sure, a little more expensive on the ammo, but it's worth it.
