Re: .380 ACP VS .380 AUTO
ppeter,
With the exception of the politics section and a few very heated gun questions this is generally a rather friendly forum. Welcome, English is obviously not your first language, we all accept and expect errors from newbies.

Re: .380 ACP VS .380 AUTO
How do I get to John Browning from Automatic Colt Pistol? Easy, with the knowledge that John Moses Browning created those Colt cartridges and firearms. Browning created it and named it ACP. If you don't like it - take it up with him. There is no such thing as 9mm Browning. What kind of a smart ass question is that anyway?

Re: .380 ACP VS .380 AUTO
You said this:
One name gives credit to it's creator, one does not.
The creator is Browning, Colt Automatic Pistol implies Colt invented it.
How is that being smartass?
Samuel Colt didn't invent it, John Browning did, give credit where credit is due, that's all.
Colt produced it first, not invented it.
And there most certainly is 9mm Browning, in both short and long.

Re: .380 ACP VS .380 AUTO
While I understand that, you know that if you start telling all the 1911 faithful that Colt invented the 1911 there would be meltdowns all over the forum.
Browning created the 1911 and to say otherwise amongst the 1911 worshipers would get you strung up in some circles.
When someone asks a question like the OP did, saying that Colt invented the .380 is misleading since the OP obviously doesn't know about Browning working for Colt.

Re: .380 ACP VS .380 AUTO
It gives credit to it's creator when it's using the name he gave it or that it was given under his invention. Not all inventors or inventions must name things after themselves. .380 ACP gives credit to it's creator, .380 does not. Calling it by it's proper name doesn't 'imply' anything. Do you suggest we just make up new names for the ammunition cartridges so they don't confuse you? What do you call an AR-15? Can't be Armalite Rifle model 15 because that doesn't include the first and last name of the inventor, right?
Nobody said that Colt invented the round, except you. Additionally saying that Colt created it isn't false since Browning created it for Colt, under Colt's name. Do you think Henry Ford invents, engineers and manufactures every vehicle with the Ford name on it? Are you a troll or just dense?Last edited by ByblosHex; April 16th, 2012 at 10:55 AM.

Re: .380 ACP VS .380 AUTO
As a sidetrack to the argument, SAAMI does not list any ACP cartridges in their 1993 standards. They are all called "Auto", abbreviated from "Automatic". Regardless, other names such as ACP are commonly used.
