    Default LTCF Question

Hi guys, it seems like every time I submit a question to Google I end up here so I thought I'd finally sign up. I live in Chester County and am thinking of getting my LTCF. I noticed on the form that it asks for references.

My problem is that my close friends and associates whom I would use as references are not 'gun people'. In fact most are on the opposite end of the spectrum and can't comprehend why someone would even own a gun. So I was wondering how stringent this part of the app is?

Would I be able to use people from outside Chester County or outside the state, or even put no names in there?

    Thanks for the time.

yup, you can use anyone you like. even though some county sheriffs will try and tell you that they have to be from your county. but that is false.

I can't answer for the Chester County sheriff, but here in York county I used 1 ref from here and 1 from Maryland, it was no problem, they were never contacted anyway.

I have also heard that some sheriffs make up their own restrictions, so good luck. Let us know how you make out.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

The instructions say they "prefer" that your references are from Chester County. They didn't contact mine. I'm guessing that they're only contacted if there is some specific concern.

My references were only checked the first time, the last two renewals they were not checked. I'm pretty sure they were checked the first time because I put down two chiefs of police.

I got my LTCF in Montgomery County, both my references live in Maryland lol.

I've often heard Chester is less strict.

Checked out the Chesco sheriff's site to see what they say about references and found this gem about non PA residents

    Firearms Permit Application

Application for License to Carry Firearms

License to carry a firearm will be issued to Chester County residents only, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF: out of state sworn police officers with proper identification.
