Re: Try to get my NRA LE firearms instructor certification
My friend, I think NRA will be your easiest route.. But above all just practice before you attempt it.. Like the previous gentleman said they will push you and make sure you qualify prior to proceeding with the class, so you need good shooting ability and nerves of steel or at least brass ball!!! Good luck, I hold 3 disciplines myself with the LE division, start with ther HG/SG class first and go from there..

Re: Try to get my NRA LE firearms instructor certification
I'll be taking the LE instructor cert for HG/SG this May here in Pittsburgh.
Here's the NRA LE link.

Re: Try to get my NRA LE firearms instructor certification
I would not get an NRA LE firearms instructor certification for the following reason:
This asshole.
Their curriculum developer is a disgraced cop who left his job after arresting and falsifying charges against an innocent man. On his NRA profile, his service is inexplicably described as honorable, when, in fact, he is a lying scumbag who would have put an innocent man in prison if it had not been for a cell phone video.
I would be hesitant to teach other police officers the lawful use of lethal force using a curriculum developed by a man who apparently can't even conduct a lawful arrest. I will not give the NRA my money as long as he remains on their staff.Last edited by victory; February 8th, 2011 at 04:52 AM.

Re: Try to get my NRA LE firearms instructor certification
I wouldn't judge a whole organization because of the actions of one individual... That would be like saying a whole police force is dirty because of the actions of one!!! Just my two cents!!!!

Re: Try to get my NRA LE firearms instructor certification
Getting an NRA LEO Instructor credential has nothing to do with teaching the lawful use of lethal force.
Your getting a credential to instruct others in a particular firearm. Nothing more. How you instruct others on the use of lethal force is on you, not the NRA.
I agree the guy is a disgrace to the profession, which is why he probably sits behind a desk rather than being out in the field giving the classes.Last edited by Steve in PA; February 8th, 2011 at 09:37 AM.

Re: Try to get my NRA LE firearms instructor certification
I just completed my NRA LE Instructor class today in handgun/shotgun.
It is NOT an easy class. It is not for beginners!
I need a few days to recover.
It is a great class and I learned a bunch.
I was also very fortunate and lucky to win the shotgun competition in my class.
They gave me this pin as an award.

Re: Try to get my NRA LE firearms instructor certification
Congratulations Dave.... I went through the same course in 1995, now retired. The thing I remembered is that on the qualification target, if the bullet hit the line instead of getting the next higher value which is common on most levels of competition, the candidate got the lower value which was a miss. At least that was their system 15 years ago.

Re: Try to get my NRA LE firearms instructor certification
If you go with good (nothing special needed) equipment and are an average to good shooter, pay attention in class, you should be fine. The qualification courses are more about round accountability than being extremely difficult like they were way back when. They require you to have at least 3 years experience as an officer and they will work with you in considering military, etc towards making that standard. You must also be an NRA member and maintain membership while your certification is valid. Good luck.
