Current wait time for Philadelphia LTCF
Does anyone have any idea how long the "Gun Permit" Unit is currently taking to process LTCF applications? My 8 weeks were up on 01/27/2011 and I haven't received anything from them. Would be worthwhile to call or go down there to inquire on my status?

8 Weeks? They have 45 days to issue it, as required by law.
§6109(e)(1)
(e) Issuance of license.--
(1) A license to carry a firearm shall be for the purpose of carrying a firearm concealed on or about one's person or in a vehicle and shall be issued if, after an investigation not to exceed 45 days, it appears that the applicant is an individual concerning whom no good cause exists to deny the license.

Re: Current wait time for Philadelphia LTCF
They only count "working" days towards the 45 day limit, so thats where they get that 8 week figure. But by that count, the wait should really be 9 weeks (5 business days per week x 9 weeks = 45 days), so I have no idea what the rationalization for 8 weeks could be. And dont forget the two-week vacation they give themselves from Dec 20th to Jan 3rd, in addition to the equipment upgrade situation going on at that office now.

Re: Current wait time for Philadelphia LTCF
I went down there, told them it's been over 8 weeks since I submitted my application for my LTCF, and they issued my license on the spot. Also, they are no longer telling applicants "8 weeks". While I waited for them to take my picture, I overheard them say "45 days" to the new applicants. Could it be that the PPD is now obeying the laws of our state?

Re: Current wait time for Philadelphia LTCF
I guess if we really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, their 45 working days/8 week turnaround could have been due to some sort of equipment issues. They were recently closed for an extended period purportedly for equipment upgrades. Could be they're now capable of complying with the letter of the law.

Re: Current wait time for Philadelphia LTCF
Hello Everyone,
Today I applied for my LTCF here in Philly. They told me 8 weeks as well. Everyone wish me luck!
Some of the interview questions were a little strange. Parking tickets? I said I had two. She made me sign the a sheet that I had two tickets. I went to PPA later and paid the tickets and faxed the receipt to the gun permit unit. Anyone denied for parking tickets before?
I do however find it completely odd that the people who issue permits, are also enforcing laws, but at the same time breaking the them...i.e. UFA guidelines and statutes that apply to LTCF.
Overall, my experience with their personnel was pleasant. I was in at 1:00 and out by 1:30pm. Now comes the big wait, 8 weeks yuck! Anyone know how the approval letter arrives? I read a few posts that stated denials were sent registered or certified mail or is it the other way?
i'm new to posting and 4 months into PAFOA!
