Default Time to pull the 1911 out and see what she'll do.

Well, here she is. My trusty Sig Sauer 1911. I'm going to the range tonight, so I'll take the camera and a notebook. Been a long time, but I love this gun too much not to show it some use every now and then. I've been shooting my classic series Sigs and my S&W 22A-1 pretty much exclusively for a good long while now. I sold both my classic series guns, so now its just the 1911 and the S&W... Until my Gen4 Glocks get here. Anyway, more pics and range report to follow.

Just came back from part one at the range, part two will happen tomorrow evening, full report to follow at that time. Right now I have to sleep. I have to be up at 6:20 tomorrow morning.

Lol. This thread does not deliver. I read the title as "I'm gonna pull out my 1911 and see what she (unnamed female) will do." Didn't realize she was refering to the gun...

I thought things were gonna get really interesting.

PS, You're either the coolest guy ever for ordering 2 Gen 4 Glocks, or a maniac. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

You, know Robert Jordan had exactly the same thing to say about polygamy.
"Two wives? Light! He's either the luckiest man alive or the biggest fool since creation and no telling which."

So here is the range report at long last.

    Shooting
I put 100 rounds through the gun at classic pistol last night. No failures, except for me failing to crimp two of them enough to feed right. Anyway, its a tack driver, Remingtonman and I both like the Sig 1911's trigger over the SA 1911's trigger. The Novak night sights are easy to see even in fluorescent light. The Hogue grips give me way better purchase on the frame from first shot to last. We were using 2" shoot-n-c dots at 7 yards the Sig 1911 was able to put 5 rounds inside the x ring unsupported. As I got more fatigued (it was the end of a long day) my groups got wider but the gun was just hitting its stride. Kicks like a mule. (just like every other 1911 I've shot) but the action seems slicker than snot on a doorknob.

    Weak points
Most of these are mine. There's really nothing wrong with the gun. There is one major complaint that I have. The floorplates of the Sig magazines. They are very flimsy and one split apart at some point during this use. It continued to function and we didn't notice there was anything wrong with the magazine until we got it back home. Back to Sig Sauer it goes.

At the end of the range session, Remingtonman was able to totally destroy one of those two inch shoot-n-c dots when we backed the target out a ways.

Overall, I'm still impressed with the value here. For less than $850 all told, the Sig 1911 is comparable to many of the $1500-$2200 1911s in fit and finish, accuracy, eating any ammo, function and feel.

nice report... sorry to hear it kicks like a mule, I find 45 to be more of a gentle push. Have someone that knows how to run one take a look at your grip... when i switched to a thumbs forward type grip I cut recoil down and broght up my speed like you wouldn't believe.

There are 1911s in Chestnut Hill? What kind of Quaker are you, anyway? I also thought it was strange that the gun kicks like a mule. Never felt a full size 1911 that did that.
