Default Making a coachgun**Need help big time**

Okay so I need people with expierence with making their own coachguns

I need advice on if I should do this but just consider I'm really wanting to do it the only other option is trading this shotgun for a coachgun and being a young father of two buying a new coach gun is not happening.

Second what should I use to cut the barrel down nicely

Next I was told there would be an open hole between the barrels and a gun savy buddy of mine said you can fill it with solder and file it nice with a fine file

    Now for sights?

The shotgun is a Stevens 311 H series nice well constructed shotgun I think after its done itll be nicer than a stoeger

    heres pics

    This can only end well.

To be fair, sounds like an entertaining project. Just make sure your measuring tape is accurate.

I have done a dozen or so of those in the last few months.

-Measure well, cut the barrels off with a hacksaw.
-finish cut the muzzle with a milling machine, piloted cutters or if you are REALLY handy, a file.

Drill and tap for the new bead of your choice.
I fill the open ends with Acraglas mixed with atomized stainless steel powder.

If you heat the barrels enough to flow solder into them, you may break the existing solder joint between the barrels and rib- most of those older guns were soft soldered.

I have to agree about the acraglas unless your really good with soldering and have the right jigs to hold the ribs while doing so. The acraglas will be fine.

I have done a couple of these.
    Measure carefully and add 1/4".
I mark the top and bottom of the barrels and then wrap a piece of masking tape around the barrels so that one edge of the tape touches the marks and gives me a straight and very visible line to guide the cut. Use a fine cut hacksaw....it will take longer to cut but you will have a smoother result.
With care, you can draw file the muzzles clean and square - get yourself a machinist's square to check your work; there should be no light visible between the beam of the square and the muzzles when you lay the square across them.
I filled the gap between the barrels with JB weld.
It is arguable whether you need to add a bead sight. We expect to see a bead but....do we need one really, especially on a coach gun?
If so, centering the little guy is worth extra care; it is amazing how easy it is to see when a sight of any kind is even a tad off.
