thinking about buying a Tokarev
So i have decided to take the plunge and invest in another caliber, 7.62x25. i am looking at getting a surplus tokarev. i am not too familiar with the different makes of these surplus pistols. So can anyone with experience shed some light on which one to buy? yugo, romanian, etc. any opinions and advise positive and/or negative will help. thanks.

B,
You really can't go wrong with any of the one's you listed. The Yugo's are 9 shot guns and Magazines may be pricer than the standard 8 Shot that every other tok design uses.
Surplus Ammo is super cheap and you can stock pile a ton of it for a few hundred bucks. It is corrosive but that's not that big of a deal since you just need Hot Soapy water to clean it.
Non Corrosive Commerical ammo can be had for added cost.
They are fairly well made guns and based off the designs of John M. Browning of 1911 fame, The Russians simplified his design and made a few componets modular for easy field stripping/cleaning. In addition they have a lot of Cold War history behind them.
As per the BATFE they all have clunky safeties retro-fitted to them, the original design had no external safety, they take some getting use to, but I really don't mind it. Others disable or remove them altogether and I saw one guy that had a welder weld up the holes, It came out looking like it never had one installed, But that's getting a little extreme for me.
Most of the ones I've seen were made in the early 1950's ~ I'd get one or more while they are still fairly cheap and plentiful, They make good rainy day guns to put away for the day we all start to go the way of the Dinosaurs.

Re: thinking about buying a Tokarev
thanks a bunch. JGSales has a yugo tok for 199.95 and with the current price of the ammo its hard to not pass up. i was not sure if the models were the same or how much they differed, i have handled a few at gun shows but never brought myself to buy one. actually its cheaper to order one off of JG so thats why i never jumped at the chance to buy one at a show. i have yet to see them in my local gun stores as well, so most likely i'll be buying it off the web. any more input would be great!

I'm thinking about one too. Can't beat the ammo prices.

Re: thinking about buying a Tokarev
I had a tokarev and hated it. I wanted to like it. The ammo is cheap, but that is about its only selling point. It is nothing like a 1911 in feel. The grip angle is all wrong for that. The surplus ammo has a bad reputation for requiring multiple strikes as well as possibly being overcharged and blowing your gun up. The accuracy is non existent. I'd save my money and buy something I could shoot first.
However, should you decide to buy the Tokarev I can give you a good deal on the 2k+ rounds of 7.62x25 I still have from when I sold mine.

The Yugo mags aren't interchangeable with any others so keep that in mind. FWIW, I bought a Polish one from a member of this forum a while back and sold it soon thereafter. The ridiculous safety is an abomination, the trigger sucks and the ergonomics aren't great. Now all that said, it's hard to pass them up right now simply for the price... they won't be that cheap forever. Plus the ammo price sure is right.

Re: thinking about buying a Tokarev
Is it accurate and easy to shoot? It looks complicated, I'm assuming because it was a war weapon it has merit. Maybe its just me some people like shooting 32acp, 25acp and on amd on? What caliber is the Tokarev?
How does it compare to the Russian Mokarva? FMI.
