We reblued it just fine but the aluminum handle was painted-so we removed paint and attempted first to etch it with aluminum etch solution to supposedly blacken it. No good-looked horrible. Then we attempted to paint with various other paints--all peeled right off with little pressure. Any suggestions would be appreciated. security 502

It was probably anodized, not painted...big difference in appearance. Might have to send it out..otherwise try duracoat or something similar.

No, it was definitely a paint we removed-wish it was anodized. May have to try duracoat. Thank you.

brownells sold or sells a brass grip frame that should fit the single six since it uses the same grip frame as the blackhawk and vaquero.

Brownells Aluma-Hyde is for painting aluminum, be sure to get the primer as well.

If you want to try a different paint of your own choosing, look for a product called Bulldog in a spray can, usually found at auto body supply places. It is used as a bonding agent undercoat for painting plastics and other materials that do not take primer well, use it first and then paint with whatever you want to use.

I would just use the Aluma-Hyde.

If the paint is just peeling off you more than likely need some kind of adhesion promoter and/or a self etching primer. Maybe media blast the aluminum piece to get a clean base to start with.

Aluminum is difficult to paint. The solution is a special primer. Try zinc chromate primer, it's the stuff used in the aviation industry to professionally paint aluminum.

Amazon has it for $9 per can. The good stuff is about the color of puke, when it turns green from aging. Follow the directions, particularly surface preparation.

Caution: it was toxic when I was using decades ago, use caution and wear a protective mask or respirator.
