Springfield armory warranty service
My bomar rear sight on my 1911 needed some warranty work. One of the adjuster screws fell out when I was shooting it.
I called them up told them what happened. They said OK we will need just the slide sent to us.They offered to email me a FedEx shipping tag then I would have to take it to a FedEx pick up.
Sent it out on 12/30/10 Got it back today
They replaced the rear and front sight and refinished the slide. I wasn't expecting them to refinish the slide but I'm glad they did. I no longer have the idiot marks on the slide from the first time I took it apart
So just wanted to let you all know how there service went

That's pretty awesome that they did all that for you and returned the pistol pretty quick to boot.

I've always heard good things about SA service - glad to hear they're still keeping up the side!
My old 1911A1 has never had any issues, in the 16 years since I bought it new, but you never know when Murphy might strike!

Re: Springfield armory warranty service
That is great to hear, and so nice to receive great service; but their warranty as I understand it, is the very reason I'm cold about getting a SA pistol; let me explain please.
I am under the impression that there is absolutely no factory parts support/self repair options if say you buy a new XD/SA pistol. I am not comfortable having to send back a pistol for an expensive trip for a $5 trigger or some such if what I say above is true. Also under the impression if they determine any repair was done outside of at SA (even a gunsmith), the "limited lifetime warranty" is void. Curious if what I mention is true, and how it really pans out in the real world.
Thanks

Re: Springfield armory warranty service
Definitely a testiment as to why they are recommended so much in the 1911 territory.

Re: Springfield armory warranty service
Any gunsmith work on the gun that does not affect the problem you have will be covered. New sights, not an issue if the gun FTF. Trigger job, not an issue if the mag doesn't lock the slide back. Gun is consistently shooting high right, they will change the sights. In other words, they stand behind the gun. I speak of 1911's here. They are excellent with their customer service. They usually pay shipping both ways.
George,
