Which is actually helpful since I was never sure exactly what kind of metal I should describe such bands as. Cool.

Yeah Opeth is a great example of progressive metal, then there's even sub categories of that, with bands like Mastodon and Baroness. Prog metal is just the easiest way of classifying things sometimes.
