Hey everybody Im new to the forums and new to carrying. I live very close to the NY border and I was wondering what do I have to do to legally transport my gun into NY?

A handgun - you cannot unless you are competing in some sanctioned shoot, you will need proof. In NY you cannot even touch a handgun without a NY handgun license - which they do not issue to nonresidents. Do NOT take a handgun to New York State.

A long gun outside of NYC - no issues that I know of.

A long gun in NYC - you need a NYC license(not available for nonresidents).

NY does not honor any other states' license...and does not issue to non-residents. Carrying is not an option.

Would never ever transport ANY firearm into NY, NJ, or MA. Even if you were legal my guess is that your headed for trouble. Just my 2 cents.

Oh okay thanks for the heads up guys. Also is it legal to carry just the ammo in the car without the gun present?

I don't even consider carrying into NY or NJ. Ever. Imagine going to jail for making a mistake by forgetting your handgun was in the truck and crossing over to NY or NJ??? I just pretend those (states) are even there.
OK, I do go down to Cape May sometimes for a little fishing. Unarmed, of course. enjoy Mike
