Default What is the advantage of the FBI ca..?

Does anybody know what is the advantages of the FBI canted holsters i see a lot of holster makers touting, you know the holsters that cant the butt of the gun forward ?

Anybody uses these holsters? What are the advantages over a regular non-canted holster?
They lok uncomfortable as heck .

    What is your experience?

    Thanks, Mike

    In my experience and opinion...
    1) Better concealment
    2) More comfortable in the car
    3) Faster, easier, more natural draw, most noticeably so when worn at 4:00 - 5:00

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

More comfortable for sure, but not faster.

I think it's easier to grip, but you have to kind of whip the muzzle out to get on target. Look at competition shooters. It's either straight up and down or actually reverse FBI (like old school cowboy rigs) to decrease muzzle movement and speed up first round shots.

But, I compete and don't CC with a limited class ball bearing leg drop holster, either
    YMMV

More comfortable in the car? Yes
    More concealable? Yes
More natural to draw? Not in my opinion.

-The one holster I purchased for my G27 had an FBI cant to it and I found myself have to roll my shoulders very far forward in order to gain a proper purchase on the firearm. I was not a fan. I actually found that the exact opposite of the FBI cant (the muzzle of the firearm pointed forward) is more natural for me. YMMV

I agree with the way better concealment and more comfortable while sitting, but not really on the faster draw just because the gun is probably going to be carried around the back farther away from what is considered the norm.

More natural draw? Yes, IMO if the weapon is carried around your back, not at your side like most people assume is where a gun should always be carried. Instead of lifting your shoulder straight up to clear the holster as "normal", with the FBI cant, you simply are grasping, drawing and then flicking your wrist back into its natural position.

Muzzle forward as mentioned I never liked, you have the tendency to want to start to bring the muzzle into position before it has cleared the holster IMO. Unless the rules have changed, USPSA does not even allow a holster that cants the muzzle forward due to safety reasons.

I think it was Bill Jordan that did a pretty good study of the neutral vs. canted draws, think he even wrote a book on the subject IIRC. He said the FBI cant was no more slower than a neutral cant.

For a modified small of the back carry, the FBI cant is fine and when carrying concealed, that is how I carry my full size USP.

    That's pretty much my feelings.

i use a blackhawk serpa holster that is ajustable for pitch of the gun. i have found the with the muzzle slightly forward and the grip tilted back, it gives a much quicker draw and is more comfortabe then the normal position. i have not tried the FBI style yet.

Up Front Disclaimer: YMMV. Opinion follows:

I think it depends upon where you carry. Considering the ergonomics of your arm and wrist, the further (farther?) back on your strong side you carry, the more pronounced the tilt of the butt forward would be so that your hand naturally grasps the pistol and doesn't have to move around to get a grip.

Try different carrys in different positions to see what works best for you.

When I carry at my 4 o'clock, I use a forward (FBI) cant. Carrying further forward (2-3 o'clock), I prefer the grip more horizontal

In any case, practice, practice. Step by step.
    1. Grasp the pistol and draw until the muzzle clears the holster.
    2. Tilt the pistol so that the muzzle is facing the direction of the threat.
    3. After the pistol is pointed toward the target, extend your arm(s) into the desired shooting position.

Start practicing very slowly, step by step, starting with an unloaded pistol, pointing only. (Don't forget to practice flicking off the safety...under stress it won't come naturally if you have not practiced it.)

Then practice adding dry (or snap cap) firing.

    Then eventually with live ammunition.

Practice for accuracy over and over again and the speed will eventually come naturally.
Practice for speed and the accuracy will never be there.

The F.B.I. wanted their holsters canted simply to make it harder for someone to grab the gun from behind.
You must pay attention to the man behind the curtain. Or you will loose.
