making your own 1911 grips
ordered some duracoat today to refinish my 1911 and all of a sudden got a bug up my ass to make my own 1911 grips. any advice from some one who has done this. better to use wood or some kind of plastic also apply some kind of decal ....was thinking nfl teams or batman symbol since i haven't seen these anywhere on the net

Re: making your own 1911 grips
i made some grips back when i owned a 1911. i basically traced a pair of factory grips onto a block of wood or laminate wood and just kept sanding and fitting. eventually you'll get it. it took me a few pieces to get it right but after a while you'll be making tons of them . i cannot find any pictures right now but if i do ill post them up. good luck.

Re: making your own 1911 grips
You could do it the same way as lance said except with lexan. You could make some awesome clear or semi clear grips.

This company makes custom grips you could use to see some designs. You can even send them your own image and they will make you grips.Last edited by shooker8; January 20th, 2011 at 08:29 PM.

Here's a thread for a set I made, you could very easily substitute any material other than wood.
1911 grips
Possibilities are endless. Be sure to post pictures of what you come up with!

Re: making your own 1911 grips
Its just two panle seems like it would be easy to do, if you are into that kind of thing. Get one piece of nice grain wood or pearl/polmer panels and go to work.
I bet in the ned you would spend just about the same money if you bought a nice set of grips. The 1911 has so many grip options even if you made personal grips there would be one already made just like the ones you made. It get the point of how personalized can you get besides ecthing your initals in them. Then you start get to be too guady.
