After 32 years in the military, 8 years USMC, 24 years US Army and over 1700, (that's not a typo, I can prove it), over 1700 combat mission outside the wire, I believe that's a big 'YES' to your question about "EXPERIENCE WITH GUNFIGHTING". I relive those gunfights every night in my dreams.

None. Also nobody ( us civilians) is getting in a "gun fight". You might have to shoot someone but it's not going to be an extended gunfight. Also the shit is never going to hit the fan and no apocalypse is coming.
Sorry to ruin it for everyone.

243rd rule of a gun fight: don't get there 10 years after it's over. Thread=necro.

This thread was dead for 10 years until now, and nothing of substance has been added.

I was always taught that the rules for gunfights are as follows. There are a few others but these are what I remember

    1. Have a gun
    2. Have friends with guns
    3. If it is worth shooting it is worth shooting twice
    4. Only hits count
    5. The faster you finish the fight the less shot you will get.
    6. Always cheat, always win. The loser of a gunfight dies, the winner lives.
    7. Nobody will care what caliber or what stance you used, or how you controlled your breathing. They will care who won.

    From post #7:
if we're going in order of importance, not getting holes should probably be at the top
i think the most comprehensive "rules for a gunfight" list was compiled by James Yeager. Most are the same but there's some good replacements, revisions and additions.
Question -- is that 'the James Yeager' recently made notorious in these pages?

0). Drone airstrike from a remote location - blow everyone up from your living room. Any questions, please refer to rule #11.

    3. Have a plan.
    4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.
    5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone
    you meet.
    6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not
    start with a "4."
    7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap.
    Life is expensive.
    8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral
    And diagonal movements are preferred.)
    9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
    10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
    11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you
    Lose.
    12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance,
Or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
    13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating or reloading.
    14. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should
have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
    15. And above all ... don't drop your guard.

-1). Nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.
