denied purchase-PA wants fingerprints
Hello, I'm a newby to the site, looking for information.
My husband & I went to a gun show a few weeks ago. He tried to make a purchase. The dealer said that the state could not clearly identify him so and they had to put him in the "further check pile". The dealer said he hold the gun and contact us when he heard back. A few weeks went by and he called us back to say my husband was denied. He sent us a form to complete and send back to the state to finf out why. My husband did. Within a few days, we recieved a letter not stating that he was approved or denied or why, but that they still were unable to positively identify him and that the only way they can do that is for him to go to the state police and be fingerprinted. This does not sound right to me, but again, I'm new to this. Is this normal? If anyone could give me some knowledable advise, we would really appreciate it.
Thank you!Last edited by dmccoy117; January 15th, 2011 at 05:47 PM.

It was the Valley Forge Gun Show, and the dealer was not far.

My guess there's someone (who's prohibited) with the same name as your husband. They're asking for finger prints to compare to the ones on fill for that name.

Did he provide his SS#?
I'll vote for Romney when he promises not to run in 2016.

Re: denied purchase-PA wants fingerprints
I experienced similar issues this summer but it was eventually resolved. From beginning to end it took about two months. You can't be in too big of a rush. This all happens at the speed of bureaucracy. Patence is the key. I joined this board when I was first denied and the fine folks here pointed me in the right direction. I am now the proud owner of PA carry permit and my brother surprised me with a Ruger SR40 for Christmas. He felt I deserved it for the issues I went through this summer. Moral of the story - be persistent and follow through. Don't be discouraged, but it does take time. I was not in a rush and I did not have handgun at the time.
My issue: my name was the same as another bad actor in the same county with an open PFA and a number of "law abiding deficientcies". Although I did not have to get a fingerprint, I did have FBI clearances and child abuse checks for my job but it all comes down to the state being able to properly identify you.
I will be taking my brothers, dad and step-son to the NRA for some range time late this summer. I just wanted to participate with the rest of my family in the sport of shooting. My job had always kept me from having fun and my wife said I needed a hobby so, here I am today on the forum.
best of luck.

Re: denied purchase-PA wants fingerprints
yes, he provided everything they asked for. I was expecting the letter to either approve or deny him with a reason. I am not comfortable with providing fingerprints.
How many criminals with the same name, same dob, same ssn, same dln, etc... could there be that they can't tell the diffence?Last edited by dmccoy117; January 15th, 2011 at 07:45 PM.

SSN isn't required on the form, but it is an option. It helps facilitate instances like this. If they have his SSN and DL, then there's no way they can't "positively identify" him.
Is your husband's name Mike Smith or something?

Re: denied purchase-PA wants fingerprints
I thought Pics had X amount of days to either confirm or deny?
I never heard of this requirement. Yet another reason Pics should be abolished.
I wish I could be of more help....good luck!FUCK BIDEN
