Default AK & AR - do you own both, or partial to just one?

I'm a little surprised at how MUCH interest there is in the AKM (47 & 74) variants there are in PA - it seems more & more folks here at least, are snapping them up these days.

Thought I'd see how ownership breaks down, just out of curiosity. I own 1 AK, but 5 AR's, just for reference.

Don't own an AK, but for what it is worth, I considered purchasing one for quite awhile, until I discovered the Bushy 7.62X39 and .450 uppers. I now have three variants in a platform that I can handle well, plus, the options are better with the AR platform. JMHO

Poll FAIL. No option for "I own one of each".

Also, I believe there was a thread nearly identical not long ago. Hard to search for "AK or AR" using this forum's search feature though...

+1 EM, I came looking for that option, too.

I have 2 of each, where does that leave me?

User FAIL - rifles are like Doritos - you CAN'T stop at JUST one! Well, you can ONLY stop at just ONE, or the OTHER - NOT both!

I thought about that when making the poll though, and said, "Nah... nobody would embarrass themselves admitting to owning just 2 rifles!"

You only asked about AK's and AR's.

I think my ARs outnumber my AKs by one, by two if you count the AR-10, which is fair, I guess, because I'm counting a 12 gauge AK.

An AR upper, with handguards, costs about the same as a whole AK, maybe more. The AK, however, is nowhere near as modular as the AR platform, so you kind of need to buy a whole new rifle if you want a change, that or buy a bulky press and rivet tools.

The ARs are more ergonomic, and faster to reload, but more $$$, and easier to screw up if you don't choose parts wisely. Still think the ARs have a slight edge, but I definitely see the appeal of the AK platform.

I have a Norinco MAK-90 and a BCM 20" - one of each; both are solid and elemental, without frills. I'm equipped to hand-load for each of them, though.

I likewise had no place to vote.

Four ARs, one a 10.5" SBR.

Six AKs, four in 7.62x39 and two in 5.56.

I like ARs and AKs both, and for different reasons. For example, if I'm out in the northern PA woods, standing on a huge house-sized glacially-deposited boulder and suddenly feel compelled to holler, "Wolverines!", then nothing but an AK feels "just right" for the moment.
