Glock 'generations'
I may soon be in the market for a Glock pistol. I know there are different 'generations', but don't really know the differences between them. Also, if the seller is unsure of this themselves, is there some way to tell based on cosmetic features or perhaps the serial number?

Re: Glock 'generations'
From a GlockTalk forum thread:
-Gen 1, --generation smooth grip no finger grooves no rails
-Gen 2, --generation textured grip no finger grooves no rails
-Gen 2.5, --same as Gen 2 but added the second locking block pin
-Gen 3, --textured grip finger grooves accessory rails
-Gen 3 RTF2,--was a optional texture and slide serration option, small pointed pyramids
-Gen 4,--back to straight slide serrations, larger pyramids with relieved tops

Re: Glock 'generations'
that 21C looks like a GEN3, the GEN 2.5 will have finger grooves but there is no texture in them and the dull finish. like the one here

Re: Glock 'generations'
just get a smith and wesson m&p and you will have no problems deciding what model to get

Re: Glock 'generations'
Another cool feature on the Gen4, at least for us left handers, you can switch the mag release from left to right hand with just a flat head screw driver. Either way, if your looking for a Gen4 it will say right there on the slide.

Re: Glock 'generations'
Unfortunately, the glock 19 gen 4's have reportedly been having some trouble handling the lighter load (115gr) target ammo stuff. Something about the new double spring/guiderod. Glock has issued a newer one with an "04" on it but some have still had problems there. Its a shame b/c I would get a gen 4 too b/c I like the new mag release on them. I will wait a little while until they work the bugs out. This is discussed at length on www.glocktalk.com
AFAIK its only with the G19Gen4. If you're looking for a .40 I would grab a gen 4 G23 no problem.
Theres plenty of Gen 3 Glock 19's which is probably what you'll see the most of out there at the gun shops and they are superb. Now less Glock, more H&K :)

Re: Glock 'generations'
I have the G23 Gen4 and haven't had any issues whatsoever even with the lightest loads. So I assume it is isolated to the G19. Great firearm so far.

Re: Glock 'generations'
Yeah I heard the gen 4 G23's are money! newer guiderod/spring apparently helps with some of the recoil.
Now less Glock, more H&K :)
