Gun control has become a topic of heated debate in the aftermath of that shooting spree that claimed the lives of six people and left 14 others injured.

People across the nation continue to talk about that tragic incident in Tucson, Arizona where a crowd was sprayed with gunfire.

The question now is about gun control.

Do guns provide increased safety for citizens or do they created increased danger?

Local gunshop owner Bob McDowell says guns aren't dangerous, it's the person behind the gun that makes it either evil or good.

Other local residents we spoke with today said having a firearm makes them feel more safe.

Carol clement says she's seen an increase in crime in Erie, as a result she has a gun to protect herself and her home, and she's begun taking classes to ensure proper use of the firearm.

But what can we as a nation do to make sure guns don't fall into the wrong hands?

Mcdowell says criminals need to be removed from society.

"When you break the law you break a law and you should be punished for it. How many criminals are caught today on the streets with firearms in their possessions?", said Bob McDowell, owner of bob's gun shop

McDowell also says there should be swift, severe, and uncompromising punishment for people who misuse firearms.
