Default CeraKote, DuraCoat, any interest in...

Having someone locally that you can go to to have it done?

I'm thinking about getting the equipment to do this kind of coating but I'm not going to put out the money if I can't recoup my investment. Here are a few of the things needed to do it properly:

Sand blaster (for some coatings you have blast for the best results)
Good air brush system (no runs, no drips, no errors)
Curing oven (you have to accurately set and maintain temperatures)
Accurate temperature probe for the oven
The coatings (and hardeners as needed)
    Blasting media
    Mixing containers
    paint filters
    degreaser

The top five make up the biggest cost, even if you get a small blaster and oven.

If there is enough interest from people I'll probably start to do it.

Coatings can be done on handguns or long arms. Many people want to camo their shotgun barrels but want something that is longer lasting than camo tape. Others want to do something special to a plain black synthetic stock. Maybe you want to recolor the frame or slide of your pistol.

Let me know what you think. If there's enough interest, I'll work up a price list.

Not a fan of DuraCoat at all. It always looks shiney.

I have a rifle with CeraKote on it and love it. I have a buddy that CeraKote's and I think the finish is a little better.

To be honest with you, I was hoping to eventually have you mod my 1911 once I had the $$$ to obtain the parts. I wanted to have the frame cerekoted flat dark earth for a two tone look. But $$$ are in short supply and other projects have priority.

Hopefully more people will respond to make your initial investment worthwhile. Good luck.

Thumbs up Re: CeraKote, DuraCoat, any interest in...

I had Amelon Coatings, LLC down in VA cerakote my tired old Kimber this past summer, and it looks AWESOME! Here's a before & after shot, if it'll help people understand better waht you'll be doing for them.

I bought it from a FL LEO (his department's 1911/Glock certified armorer - he did the custom bob job himself) - the finish was RATTLE-canned on by the time I got it.

Granted, I got new grips and a new ambidextrous safety, too, BUT... check out the new & improved look!

Cerakote is da' BOMB! If you can do it locally, so much the better. I have a few AR lowers for you to tackle if you do!

I would most defiantly have you do few of mine. I have 2 guns I desperately want to refinish, but 2 to 3 months wait from every source scares me, as I have no patients

I also have a couple of handguns that I was thinking in refinishing in a two tone. If you do get set up, please let me know.

I'd be interested in Cerakoting a revolver and a .22 bolt gun. Both would need some prep work for very light rust and/or pitting.

    Any initial thoughts on prices??
I don't watch shark week. Sharks watch FLICK week.

Not yet, I'm still in the process of researching a few of the things I would need (blaster, curing oven). These are the biggest cost items and the physical size is a concern as I have limited room.

I'm curious to for a .22 bolt gun I have.
For pistols, I'd be more interested in Titanium Nitride or Hard Chrome.

I could probably stand to have a stock or two cerakoted. How complex are you planning for the designs. Kinda want some camo patterns...

IF I do get into this, since I've never done it before, I would probably start out with pretty simple stuff until I learned more and got more experience.
