New Suppressor Cover
I just got my first suppressor and I am running it on a rifle with scope. I have read that after shooting a few rounds you can start to get mirage in the field of view. Since its winter and I am not really shooting much...or at all. I am preparing for summer when I shoot a lot. I thought I would pick one of these covers up.
First of all I could not find many I liked. Secondly, they are like $40-$60+ !
Call me cheap but I didn't want to drop that kind of money one a little cover.
DIY solution. make my own.
Made from %100 recycle surplus materials. OD green Canvas outer, Grippy Rubber inner.
Snape closure, snug fit
Fits 1.5" diam by 7" long cans.
what do you all think?
Will this do the job?

Re: New Suppressor Cover
Looks good! About the mirage thing, where did you hear that? I wonder if its true. Personally I've never experienced that but I only have a .22 can. I would think that you would have to be shooting full auto (or very quick single shots) to get that effect. Although, I have absolutely no facts whatsoever to back that up.
How did you get the snaps on there, some sort of crimp tool? Where do you get one, and how much do they cost? Fabric store?
And is that a mousepad?

Re: New Suppressor Cover
the heat distortion is very true...I've experienced it on mmy 5.56 suppressed rifles.
it all depends how hot you get teh can... a 5.56 can under rapid fire can get well past 700 deg."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Neat cover, but I see the rubber grippy part being an issue with 700 degree or similar heat.
Might want to try weaving in some foil type material or exhaust pipe wrap..

Re: New Suppressor Cover
you will get mirage from the can...and it also helps for that inadvertent bumping of a hot can on bare skin.
The $40-$60 covers use nomex material so they don't melt....that's why they're $40-$60. Me thinks your rubber grippy inside is going to melt.
Once you get it worked out and offer it in multi-cam, I'll take two.

Re: New Suppressor Cover
700 degrees!! yeah I don't know if it will hold up to that. Like I said I am running it on a rifle which will not be rapid fire. I think it will be good for the rifle, maybe not the AR.
Its made from a pouch I found at the Army Navy Surplus store. The snaps were in place already...just happend to fit the 5.56 suppressor perfectly with the rubber liner. Like I said I have not seen how well it works yet, but its great to get ready for summer shooting.

Re: New Suppressor Cover
The cover looks good but, I wouldn't put that on my can. The rubber will melt. It will ruin your can. It was already stated but, the covers on the market are built to stand the heat. That won't.
Good idea and construction, though. Just not thought through completely.
