Glock - What part is actually a "gun"
I have a random question. I tried to search but was probably using the wrong terminology. I am pretty familiar with rifles, but I had a question about my glock. What part is the actual "gun" or receiver? Just looking at the gun nothing really strikes me as obvious. I would think that the polymer portion is the "gun", but I see replacement ones for sale with no FFL needed.

I'm guessing he's joking,
Because if you hadn't noticed, there are serial numbers all over your Glock.
The receiver is the lower polymer part of the gun. Ya know, the part that isn't the slide. Now, the OP says that he sees replacement frames for sale without an FFL... I looked around and can't find any of that. Pretty sure you need an FFL.Last edited by rwb1500; January 6th, 2011 at 04:12 PM.

glocks have serial numbers on the frame, on the slide, and on the barrel. (i have one with 3 different serial numbers as both the slide and barrel have been replaced )
to the OP, it is the frame...also known sometimes as the receiver...which is legally the "firearm". the frame is the polymer part (with the grip, trigger guard, etc.)F*S=k

My understanding is that the frame is the "gun".
You can buy barrels, slides (like .22 conversion kits), and other parts without regulation, but the frame must be bought/sold as per state and federal law regarding handguns."Political Correctness is just tyranny with manners"

Re: Glock - What part is actually a "gun"
the serial numbers on the slide and barrel are legally meaningless...at least in PA--some other states might have some stupid laws about them.
i have a glock with a replacement barrel and slide, so it has three different serial numbers. it is not an issue. the only one that actually counts is the one on the frame.F*S=k
