redfield revolutions are AWESOME........ they are basically a Leupold with a different name. Redfield was recently bought out by leupold and the glass quality has jumped up a million times. I just bought a 4-12x40mm revolution with the accu-range recticle for under $200. wouldnt trade it for ANYTHING made by Nikon btw. I actually sold a $850 Nikon scope after using my redfield.

I wouldn't really consider being bought out by Leupold being a good thing. Now if Premier bought them (Redfields in the 60s had Premier reticles, not that it has anything to do with who'd buy who) I'd be pretty stoked.

Putting a monetary cap on the scope is a good idea. I would ask people at the range you shoot at, as well. Remember, the more money you spend isn't going to make you a better shooter, practice will. You have a lot of great scopes to choose from in that price-range. I do have a few questions: What is the longest shot you have ever taken? Do you plan on ever touching the adjustments after you zero? What distance will you zero at?

This will by my first rifle with a scope. My longest shot with iron sights at this point is probably around 175 yards (the limit where I am able to shoot for free, I will be joining a club once I have my rifle with approx 500 yards to shoot from). I will probably zero @ 100 yards and hope to use the turrets to adjust dope etc. That will take time though.

What sort of ammo do you plan to shoot? Do you plan on handloading?

I will probably shoot commercial ammo until I get groups down under 1" MOA and then move to match grade. I don't know if hand loading is in my future or not, as that opens up more cost etc.

Well I had been looking at this scope (approx $580 on eBay, new) and saw that Midway has it on sale starting today. Couldn't pass up the price so I just ordered it. Hopefully it works out.

You did OK. Just make sure you use quality base/rings.

I've had fantastic results with SWFA Super Sniper scopes. I have a 16X mildot on my Rem 700P and I have a SWFA 3X- 9X on my FAL. The 3X-9X is a first focal plane mildot reticle and would be a great scope for you at a price tag around $600.00. check out www.swfa.com
