    Default checkered vs smooth grips ???

    I did a search and didn't come up with an answer.

    I am looking to change the factory grips on my S&W 3913. I narrowed it down to the Hogue hardwoods. (only show in town for the 3913)

    My question is;
    Which is better for a EDC, the checkered or the smooth ones???
    Would the smooth ones give a good enough grip or would they be more 'slippery' ?

    I really like the smooth vs the checkered, but I want maximum control.

    If you do not have checkering on the mainspring housing and the front strap, I would go with the checkered. jmho

    If you buy the smooth grips and don't like them you can always add grip tape. I don't think it really matters. Some of the best shooters in the world use smooth grips some use agressive rough grips. One good thing about a smooth grip is if you draw fast and don't quite get the grip you want its easier to reposition the gun while shooting. Unless you plan on having wet or greasy hands I think the smooth would be fine.

    I prefer smooth for EDC. Won't rub your skin raw and also allows the cover garment to slide over the grips rather then getting snagged on the grips. JMO

    Never thought about that aspect.
    I will probably go with the smooth anyway, I like the look better.
    I can always go up to the checkered if needed.

    As always, that you for your input.

    I prefer checkered - they stay put and keep your grip consistent. This is a proven.

    You just have to train for that situation. I practice licking my fingers before I draw and I've got some pretty quick times.

    The grip you use to draw your handgun should be the same grip you use when pulling the trigger. So your grip should not change thru the draw and up to the fire of the handgun.

    Checkering on the grips and straps allow for instant feel of your correct grip when drawing and firing a handgun. But with practice, a constant grip on smooth surfaces can also be accomplished.
