M1 Carbine Peep Sight Question
Ok, This is for a shotgun, but I figured I would have a better response in this section.
I have a Mossberg 500 that came with a 18.5" Barrel, It has a 3/8" Dovetail folding rear rifle sight.
The original sight has one of the ears broken off. I would like to replace it and have found a suitable replacement.
Here is a photo of what is currently on it. Its the one on the far right.
What I want to find out is:
If anyone has one of these M1 Carbine Rear Peep sights. I need to get some measurements, If the height is right I may put one on in place of the original sight. I realize the aperture may be too small, but I could always open it up as needed.
So If you have one and could take some measurements, or have a link with this information, I would greatly appreciate it.Last edited by Paintwerk; January 3rd, 2011 at 04:59 AM.

Re: M1 Carbine Peep Sight Question
If the shotgun is going to be used for SD/HD, a peep sight might not be the best choice. They're kinda' hard to see through in the dark or low light conditions.

Re: M1 Carbine Peep Sight Question
Let me know which dimensions you're looking for. I'd be happy to measure the sight on mine for you...

Re: M1 Carbine Peep Sight Question
I can see how it could be an issue. For $20 Im not out a lot of money, if it doesnt work out I can just change it back to the original configuration.
Im looking for the the dimension from the bottom of the sight to the center of the aperture, for both the high and low.
Heres a crude pic to show what I mean.
Thanks.Last edited by Paintwerk; January 3rd, 2011 at 05:58 PM.

Re: M1 Carbine Peep Sight Question
Got it. I couldn't find the actual numbers in my books so I tried to measure for you. It's not the easiest thing to get accurately with my limited tools and the sight mounted mind you, but I think I'm pretty close:
Dimensions are 0.45" and 0.55" respectively.

Re: M1 Carbine Peep Sight Question
Thanks for the measurements.
My original sight is adjustable from .43 to .49 so this may work. Now I just need to determine if a peep sight in that location is functional or not.
