cast loads in 45 for comp shooting
I posted this in another section but not getting the response I looking for. I have recently acquired a 1911 and plan on using it in comp shooting, I am going to be using Roger's Better Bullets from King's and have some choices. I normally load Berry's in 230 ball, but since deciding on Roger's there are 3 I like, 230 RN, 200 SWC and 185 SWC.I'll be using either Titegroup (my standard) or HP38 just got it and have not tried it yet. What do you 45 loaders like (bullet not load)and what is the reason for your choice? I like the 185 SWC but have only used 230 ball but this will be in comp so how are they for major or what would work best for major? I'm looking for info on the bullet type and grain selection not load info.
Thanks guys

Re: cast loads in 45 for comp shooting
I would run up a handfull of round of each. Since every gun is a bit different you wouldn't want to make a lot of SWC rounds only to find out that your gun won't feed them reliably. That happened to a friend of mine. Lucky for me my P220 eats that stuff up, so I got them all. I use Better Bullet 200gr RNFP because they feed reliably in all my 45's.

Re: cast loads in 45 for comp shooting
If you are shooting USPSA/IPSC or IDPA I would use the 230gr. They are more reliable and have less felt recoil than the 185 or 200. The roundnose of the 230gr also tends to feed better.
One thing about shooting cast bullets to be awarew of. In the summer, especially during high humidity, the cast loads tend to produce alot of smoke. Sometimes to the point of obscuring the view of the shooter.Last edited by hzox221; January 11th, 2011 at 01:47 PM.
