Default Let the Debate Begin: To Carry - Fewer .45 vs More 9mm

Mods: If this belongs elsewhere, feel free to move it with my apologies.

I'm currently carrying a SIG-Sauer P220 Super Match. Big gun, but it's comfortable in the Crossbreed SuperTuck. It's easy for me to be very accurate with it, but like my Springfield Range Officer 1911, it's a single-stack mag. The other consideration is, of course, remembering, during crisis, to take it off safe (I carry cocked/locked w/one in the chamber).

Compare that carry gun to say a Glock 17. No safety to worry about, lightweight, 17+1 of 9mm.

I think that I, and perhaps many other folks, generally consider that if there's a threat to our lives, it'll be by one bad guy. Supposing there's not a single threat. I suppose you could hope it's your lucky day, and you'll shoot well under pressure with 8 rounds of .45, but what if that's not the case?

What are all of your thoughts?

    Thanks as always!

    This is partly why I chose .40 S&W. My G22 holds 15+1.

.40 gives you a little bit of both. Higher cap than .45, bigger round than 9mm.

This is a debate with no "right" answer. Both have the ups and downs. What it comes back to is it is still a hand gun and the ballistics show there is no real advantage to .45. Bigger isn't always better. (Guys live it up!) My vote goes to the 9mm +p. The energy is about the same and you have more capacity. There are documented cased to support both calibers in their prime. "One stop shot .45", "one stop shot 9mm" or "15 round stop, 9mm" (wouldn't have had enough to keep shooting in .45 and since the perp was drugged out, needed all them shots).

I wont argue the .45 is a damn good round, but I don't think it has any advantage over a 9mm in the real world.

    Carry both for the win.

I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

    Springfield Armory XD45 Service . . .

. . . 13+1 rds of 45 ACP goodness in an envelope not much bigger than an XD9, with the added "cocked and locked" manual safety.

Glock 21 gives you 13 plus one of .45. As far as an attacker goes, always use the "plus one" rule and assume that if there are two, then there are three etc...

    Is an xd really C & L?

I mean it's a lot more like a da trigger to me. I connect c&L with a s/a trigger but that's just me.
