Ruger Announced a New Carbine
Interesting little gun. Fits a small market segment but the 10 round mag is juicy for all the SHTF'ers. It would make a good mountain gun though. I thought PA limited magazine capacity in rifles (for hunting) but I can't find any mention of it in the Hunting Digest.

Re: Ruger Announced a New Carbine
Nice to see Ruger is making guns about 15 years behind the times.
The "Scout Rifle" heyday was probably in the late 1990's. Not sure how this one will be received in the marketplace so late.
It is a nice looking rifle though, should be decent.
The Scout Rifle Concept as per the Jeff Cooper definition:
The Scout Rifle concept is the result of the efforts of many under the leadership of Colonel Jeff Cooper to build a better rifle. The Scout Rifle concept describes a light weight (seven pounds max), carbine length, with a removable magazine, general purpose rifle chambered in .308 Winchester with a high quality scope mounted far forward.

I was interested till I saw the price. No way I'm paying $1000 for that.

One thing I don't like about it is the magazine. Why in the hell did Ruger utilize a SINGLE STACK MAGAZINE! The 10 rounder sticks out like a sore thumb."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" British Major Pitcairn at Lexington April 19, 1775

Re: Ruger Announced a New Carbine
i really don't see the point with this particular rifle. why do i need a 10 rd mag in a bolt action hunting rifle? i'm all for hicap mags but in this case it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. cool looking rifle but not something i'd be interested in buying even if the actual price is in the 600-700 dollar range.

I'm definitely confused on who the target market is also.
Looks nice thoughPeace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Re: Ruger Announced a New Carbine
Yeah, I agree. I don't see what the target market for a hi-cap, bolt gun, with pic rail & flash suppressor would be; unless it was a sniper type rifle. Which this obviously ain't.
Like the OP said, it is interesting, though.Last edited by IronButt; December 30th, 2010 at 10:51 AM. Reason: typo

Re: Ruger Announced a New Carbine
Does the 10 round max capacity of CA and several other states apply only to handguns or does that possibly answer the target market question?

Re: Ruger Announced a New Carbine
Like I said earlier, Ruger is about 15 years late.
The Scout Rifle concept is interesting, it fills a certain niche, the idea generated a lot of interest in the 90's. A couple of gunmakers answered the call and made some nice rifles based on the idea.
Steyr made the Steyr Scout.
Savage made the Savage Scout.
Ruger already made the Frontier Scout.
Ruger is a day late and a dollar short with this new offering if you ask me, the large interest that was generated in the Scout concept is kind of over.
