AK questions
I have an AK with a muzzle nut that seems to be spot welded on the underside holding it in place over the threads. what all is involved in swapping it out for a muzzle brake? is it just as simple as cutting the weld, removing the lug and threading the brake on? its a full size AK not an SBR...thanks for any advice/input you can offer and provide. thanks

Re: AK questions
Grind the weld off with a dremel tool, thread the new brake on.
(Assuming the muzzle break is not required to make the barrel 16")Last edited by CPratt; December 28th, 2010 at 09:11 PM.

Re: AK questions
Don't forget the muzzle break is left hand thread, so it turns the opposite of the "norm".

Re: AK questions
the only reason it was spot welded on is because mussel breaks on AKs and similar rifle are illegal in some states.
just thought i would let you know

Re: AK questions
My WASR was like that. a few minutes with the dremel tool will fix it.

Re: AK questions
"Factory" AKs have a spring stud, spring, and retaining pin. The stud pops out and engages one of the little grooves around the outside of the nut/compensator and keeps it from unwinding or shooting off. Your FSB may or may not have the hole drilled for the spring stud. Just a thought.

Re: AK questions
i might not have the pin, or it might have the pin and not have threads. some barrels aren't threaded or have had the threads ground off. the only to tell is to take the nut off and see. you can usually tell if you have the pin simply by looking closely at the top of the barrel nut. it should be protruding from the face of the front sight base front.
