Can someone tell me what could cause this failure to feed?
Here's a quick video of the malfunction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p5NLkSxeL8
I have a Glock 27 that is about 4 years old. It has about 2K rounds through it.
I recently started having problems with this type of feeding issue. I have two magazines with #7 followers and one with a #4. The two with #7's have pierce +0 finger extenders on them. The #4 does not.
I had this problem again today with both #7 magazines. It always happens with the last two rounds.
Let's pretend for a minute that it is not limp wristing. I've heard enough of that advice. I've never had this problem with any other weapons, even sub-compacts, so I'm not gonna blame myself first
I'm looking for any advice or suggestions on what it could be, or how to test theories.
Thanks in advance.

It may be possible that it is a spring issue. Have you tried new springs yet?
Maybe the followers are not seated correctly on the spring. Have you disassembled the mags and checked them?
Either that or your gun doesn't like that ammo/ follower combo. Is the #7 follower set at a steeper angle than the #4?
Any time I ever had a problem with the last round or 2 feeding it was due to a bad / compressed / weak spring. Try taking the spring out and slightly stretching it. See if that makes a difference.
Try putting one of your pearce finger extensions on the mag with the #4 follower and see if it makes a difference.Last edited by CHEMICAL; December 26th, 2010 at 05:20 PM.

Re: Can someone tell me what could cause this failure to feed?
Who is to know, no one saw the pistol being shot. Could be ammo. He has HP's in it and it may not like that man. Glock mag springs last for years, so I would probably rule that out. Could be a follower issue.
Make sure your slide is clean, lubed, and not binding, use a consistant power ammo such as WWB for ball or Win. Super X silver tip HP's, make sure followers are seated correctly, and numero uno - make sure you are not limp wristing. BTW, I have seen a lot of Glocks have failures when using reloads.

most failures in semi auto's are mag related
you have these failures with certain mags and not others
I think thats all the clues you need.
Toss them and buy new mags.

As soon as I saw "failure to feed" I instantly was thinking gen 4 glocks with the recoil spring issues. But since he's had it for about 4 years now, that's ruled out. The easiest thing you can do is just try different ammo. If that doesn't work, I'd look at the mag spring. That may be too loose and would be an inexpensive fix. And lastly, i'd still look into the recoil spring even though you said it only happens on the last 2 rounds..maybe it'll start doing it before that.
I would rather die in a shootout than get assassinated in a "gun free zone"

Re: Can someone tell me what could cause this failure to feed?
The slide is outrunning the magazine by just a hair.
I bet if you change your recoil spring assembly, or the magazine springs/ followers, the problem will either get a lot worse or disappear.
See how the bottom of the breach face that pics up the rounds isn't behind the back of the cartridge, that's your clue.
It's a spring issue. I'd put new springs in the mags, try a new recoil spring assembly, then test fire it again.
This is the same kind of stuff you see with small 1911's (where slide speed is so fast), and Gen 3.40's with metal frame lights.

What kind of ammo is it that you are having trouble with? Is it doing it with every ammo that you try?

Re: Can someone tell me what could cause this failure to feed?
Thanks for the replies.
I'm using Winchester 180 gr Law Enforcement ammo. It's what they issue at work, so it's what I carry off-duty too.
So what made me think it was not a mag spring, or limp wrist is that the top bullet is PAST the chamber. If It was a weak spring or limp wrist, wouldn't it get stuck below the chamber?
Swapping the extension onto the #4 mag is on my list of things to do.
Can anyone explain what the numbers on the followers actually mean?
I keep the gun perpetually cleaned and oiled. So it shouldn't be dirt that's messing it up.

Try some new factory unaltered magazines and see if the problem goes away

Re: Can someone tell me what could cause this failure to feed?
Yea, I would try that, too. I reread the post and see where you say it happens on the last two rds. The numbers you are referring to indicate which magazines the followers will work with. Some followers will not work with older glock magazines, and that could be where your problem is. See if someone in your dept. has a totally stock mag and try it. If it works, you probably have the wrong followers in the mags.
