To port or not to port?
So Im getting ready to order an extended barrel for my glock 20. Probably going with Lone Wolf. My question is how much energy will I loose thru porting. I have no issue with recoil or follow up shots now. It would be purely cosmetic to me. I want the maximum power, but I like the way the ports look. If im going to loose the benefit of added length from porting I wont do it though. I guess for 20$ more they will finish it in black as well, so I am going to have that done.

Man Ports on a 20? Make sure you buy some very good ear muffs.
And try to shoot alone.

Hell yes. He's absolutely right.
Now, the amount of energy you're going to loose from porting? Well look at it this way, how much extra barrel are you getting?
I'm looking at Lone Wolf right now, I see a 10mm extended 2 port barrel, it is 5.47 inches long. I'm assuming this is the one you're going with. Now those ports look like they're maybe half and inch from the end of the barrel. So you gain a tiny little bit of barrel length before you hit the ports. Not as much as a non-ported barrel though.
You will loose a little with the ports, there's no way around that. But will it be much? I highly doubt it. If I felt super motivated I could try to run all the number but that might make my head explode at this time of night.
I had a ported gun for a while, I loved it. There ya go.
High pressure rounds tend to do pretty well with porting, and you don't get more high pressure than 10mm. I know you said you were fine with the recoil and follow up shots, but I think I would make a pretty noticeable improvement. Well, best of luck either way.
Oh yeah, if you do port it, like was said above, it will be louder then you can probably imagine.Selling off a a sizeable Spyderco collection here

Re: To port or not to port?
Get the 6'' with no ports. It just adds noise and blast with no benefit.

Re: To port or not to port?
If you like the way the ports look, then you will absolutely LOVE the increased muzzle blast and the hot particles of still-burning powder hitting your face. Other shooters at the range will adore that muzzle blast, too.
. . . I have no issue with recoil or follow up shots now . . .
Heck, have a local machine shop either mill or ram-EDM a couple of fake ports maybe 1/16" deep, and paint them with flat black high-temp flat black stove or grill paint.

Re: To port or not to port?
Im just going to get the plain 6" black barrel. Thanks for the responses. I dont worry about the blast. I only use the range when I have it to myself. I just cant think of any reason to get ports, and lots of reasons not to....mostly collecting lint since it will be sticking out there all by itself unprotected. Im all for not cleaning guns more then I need to.
