Can't argue with that advice. If you decide to build, deal with REPUTABLE retailers, and that will go a LONG ways towards building a quality rifle!

Might not be any cheaper or better to build you're own, but it would be time well spent.

The cheapest way to get an AR15 is to buy a basic model from a discount dealer.

For not much more however you can often assemble a Better rifle if you
    shop around.

The most important difference between rifles is the Barrel.

Building or assembling also gives you more choice in stocks and handguards.

I suggest you look at some of the YouTube videos on building.

I have built my last two, rifle and pistol. The rifle I bought a Palmetto stripped lower and built that to see if I liked it.
I did so I bought an Anderson stripped lower and a side charging upper stripped.
With building the upper I had to buy more tools but who doesn't love tools?
With that being said if you don't include the tools I feel its better to build then buy because you can get it exactly the way you want it.
You don't waste money on stuff you don't want or need.
I keep trying to talk my dad into building them but I cant get him to bite.

Building your own with your Dad is a fantastic idea!

There are great deals right now on lightly used and lower end (still quality) new AR's. If you are looking at eventual resale, you will probably do better with a "brand name" rifle, however you can probably still get your money back on a home built rifle. There is nothing like making your own rifle -you can customize and get the lowers that you like (in sequential #'s if you look around) and you can make it the way you want it.

Yeah I’m hoping for the OP’s sake they are finished building by now or they went somewhere very wrong.

I saw this thread and got excited to see some non political firearm conversation going on then I see it’s 8 years old.
