    Default S&W 327mag J frames

I have been wanting a 2" J frame in 327 mag since the cartridge was introduced. In this month's issue of American Rifleman there is a story about the new J frame in 327mag. It has a 3 inch barrel and target sites. Now that S&W is making a J frame in 327mag, how much longer do you think it will be before they make one with a 2 inch barrel ?

Will a 2.125" barrel work for you?

Those sights look to be head and shoulders above anything previously offered on the j-frame snubs, actually....

At least there's dovetails for replacement sights - So you could add a tritium dot front, for instance, if you wanted to...

My j-frame, for instance, has red paint on the integral front sight, and that's about the best I can do without having some custom work done (have a company like Tool Tech drill the front out and install a tritium lamp, for instance)...

Huh? Have you seen what normally passes as sights on a J frame? Those look pretty good to me.

ETA: Bones beat me to it. I'd much rather have a set of sights like that than the notch on the back of a regular J.

    Bones:

Not only are those some of the best J-frame sights S&W has ever offered, they are already night sights.

You guys really need sights like that on a pocket gun??? J-frames are not target guns they are SD/"belly" guns, it's the same crap S&W did to the Bodyguard 380 with the same sights. They are trying to get into the LCP market and listen to what some have complained about that the sights are hardly there, but no matter how minuscule the sights are you are not going to shoot 25 yds with it. When I went to the range with my 442 I had no problem hitting at that distance with the sights they had, but I would not be using it like that in a SD situation, they're just not target guns.

Icing on the cake! Good info; Thanks! (Your rep button is temporarily broken on my end)...

As for the "these are not target guns" line of thought:

I agree that most would not use a J-frame as a 25 yd. bulls eye gun, but I disagree with the idea that having real sights on this kind of weapon is superfluous...

Having real sights like those pictured would undoubtedly help me get accurate hits more quickly.

The main disadvantage of the integral J-Frame sights (in my experience) is that they are hard to pick up, and subsequently, slower to get on target and align...

Sure, if you take the time to get a nice sight picture, these guns are more accurate than most of us are, but therein lies the issue - The speed with which one can readily get a good sight picture with the marginal sights on a J-Frame...

That, in my opinion, is why it certainly is worthwhile to have sights like those on a gun that admittedly is a "belly gun," or "get-off-me gun" by design...

    OMO, of course...

    Bones

What I'd like to see SW offer is a 642 in 327mag.

I know very little about the 327 mag caliber. How does it compare with a 38 +p?
